#Hebrew #Otiot word study – Savar – #Patience


“I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus …” Revelation 1:9 NIV.

There is a word here that can be read from our, and the Fathers, point of view. It is the word “patient”.

This study will concentrate on its Aramaic root word “Savar” (pronounced savair … “sa” – as in “sample”, then “vair”).

Savar is a generic tri-literal root word meaning “to expect” and “to hope”. Other translations also use “stand firm” “persevere” and “await”.

Modern Hebrew scriptures are printed in Hebrew square-script type, however, we want to use the ancient pictographic Otiot(or “Sacred Signs”) which arguably pre-date the square-script by over a 500 years (see Proto-Sinaitic script.

You will find more informatiopn and detailed descriptions of all the 22 otiot HERE, but here we will look at the three pictographs that “spell out” the word Savar.

And they are:
Resh (head), Beyt (tent/house), Samech (thorn) – read from right to left … but the meaning begins in the middle!

A tent/house. Gramatically speaking, although this is similar to the English letter “B”, here it is the equivalent to “V”. It employs the idea of function… ie the function of a house can be described as “household” or the intimate relationship found within the household. The family here is, of course, the Holy Trinity – YHWH the Father, Yahshua the Son, and Ruah ha’Qodesh the Holy Spirit.

A thorny hedge. This is the Fathers very effective hedge of protection (Psalm 91; Job 1:9) – against all Elohim’s adversaries. The thorns function of “adherence”, or “holding onto”, is also an appropriate and specific description.

The head. This pictograph illustrates a vital statement as to who, exactly, is my head. Then, its function, depending upon who my head is, establishes where I am coming from, and what my attitude will be. If my head is the Father then trust is implied.

So, from the Father’s perspective. This comes from an eternal point of view, the secret place where perfection resides (as a Family). Then Samech and Resh mix primary function (Resh) with the unerring ability to continue (Samech) … this wonderfully declares “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!” (Hebrews 13:8).

Finally, comes our “call to action”.

The foundation of patience has to begin within the intimacy of the Family (Beyt). Here is the challenge – It is essential for us to have an intimate family relationship with the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, therefore, just as in any family, we must search out that relationship by persistant prayer and meditating upon the Father’s words, to ensure that we get grounded in it. This has nothing to do with duty to law or religion – this is the vital family lifeblood that we must have running through our veins – it’s personal.

Beyt, being an habitation, also distances us from the dangerous “outside” – the World’s wilderness. We cannot allow ourselves to be influenced by any cheap tantalizing whispers from such an inhospitable place.

In here we must diligently search out that deep sense of trust for the Father (Resh) He continually offers us. We must put Him first in everything. If that is lacking then we must to ask ourselves “who is the head or chief of me?” … until we have a definite answer.

And it is from these very desirable places that a strength of adherance (Samech) will equip us to endure until the outcome of the expectation. And that outcome is guaranteed! Romans 8:28.
